Sovos Brands invests in unique food brands to bring consumers genuine, authentic taste to their homes. As a newer company in the industry, Sovos came to Swirl McGarryBowen to turn their one-page site into a more immersive, informational website for those brands looking to join, for the people interested in careers with Sovos, and general public curiosity in the company. With just two brands at the time, an important part of the project was to make sure that as Sovos acquired companies, they would easily be able to add them onto this site using a template. Close collaboration between UX, copy, and content strategy largely contributed to the success of the site.

Concepts

Sovos at the time had two brands: Rao's Homemade and Michael Angelo's. While both Italian brands, I wanted to keep the design of the site from feeling too "Italian" and open to a more variety of brands as they are acquired. Starting with just the logo and their primary color of red, I put together 3 concepts to show how variations of layout, color, and typography could be used in this evolution of their website. We introduced colors to compliment their brand red, typography, photography style, and custom iconography.

Final Design

One of the biggest challenges of this project was speaking about the brand and how to tell the brand story. I closely worked with a UX designer, a copywriter, and a content strategist to help figure out what their brand story was and how they wanted to tell it. We followed a simple strategy to start with, and that was defining who they are, what they are doing, why they are doing it, and how. This really helped shape the framework of their brand story.

Overall, the client was very happy with the finished project, and has been continuing to update this exact site with new brands as they acquire them.

Photography

To keep the brand true to itself, an in-house photographer and myself took photos of the Sovos Brands headquarters in Berkeley, CA as well as the Michael Angelo's headquarters in Austin, TX to use for the website. We wanted to bring out the culture of the company and what makes them unique, the hands-on expertise, and collaboration.
